Now would be a good time to consider freezing your credit with the three credit bureaus because of *gestures wildly* reasons.

You have the right to add a security freeze, more commonly called a credit freeze, to all of your credit reports for free. Doing so can limit access to your credit reports, which may help protect you from some types of credit fraud.

With Musk's monkey business, I agree that might be a good idea just now.

Froze ours (and my brother's) 15-20 years ago.  It used to require a PIN for each of the 3 credit bureaus if you needed to have a vendor open a charge account.  IIRC, a PIN isn't required anymore.  So it is less of a PITA ...but probably less secure.

PITA or otherwise, it the best way to try and prevent identity theft.
