I'm fact finding for a potential project and wondering whether anyone can advise on an email capture/list management tool for WP?

Are there good ones out there?

Or better off plugging in something non-WP specific?

I found G-Lock Opt-In to be very good - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/g-lock-double-opt-in-manager/

In the end I had so many sites collecting addresses that I decided to move to a central (non-wp) system.  You can export your lists from G-Lock though, so it made moving over easy.

great, thanks for that.  Will check it out.

Been doing Mailchimp, Aweber and some local ones. Ended up on Mailchimp.

Not that I have any actual use for it, but I'll add that about a year ago there were several positive articles/reviews/comment-streams in the legit tech sites for Mailchimp

This may be more than you need if you are not actually sending newsletters from your website but

http://tribulant.com/plugins/view/1/wordpress-newsletter-plugin

was the best newsletter plugin I found when looking for a wp solution $54.99 for a single site license.

Optinskin and Popupdomination are pretty good for capturing emails and creating forms etc.

One downside of Mailchimp:

11 f. Prohibited Content and Industries: Affiliate marketers

Not sure what you are gonna use it for but if you are an affiliate I would stay away from MailChimp. There are also some other pretty legitimate industries that are prohibited.
