My most recent vice has been in the flavor of El Rey Del Mundo oscuro wrapped Robusto Suprema.

A nice 7 1/4 x 54 leathery sweet roll of goodness in a stick.

Any other cigar smokers here?

AND SISTERS!!

I love cigars.  I have to stay away from them and "limit" myself to once a quarter or so.

My personal fave:  Mapachos from Peru.  You have to store them at a very high humidity -- 80%, since it is a jungle tobacco.  And, you can't smoke them too fast as they have 12% nicotine.

But they are a gentle sweet flavor.

Um, I should leave now ...

Jungle smoke eh? Sounds intriguing. Only one humidor area though, so it's a no go here.

Ashton robusto if we are talking proper cigars... grape mini-Dutch if we aren't;)

I've always been a Montechristo No.2 fan. There's no Cuban embargo in Japan, so I can get things our friends in the US are forbidden. ;)

I've not tried Ashton, I don't think they come 7+ in a 50 ring or larger? (sort of my defacto minimum)

>Montecristo

My Dad has a box of Montecristo Reserva Negra churchills aging, waiting on final approval for federal aid for his schools. I'm really looking forward to that celebration, as that type of cigar is a tier above what I smoke.

Rumbas

Haven't been into cigars, still doing the cigs.

However had the pleasure of Cohiba more than once and was pleased.

Darn you Dogbog!

What would you recommend to a beginner like me?  I have stopped smoking cigarettes now, but enjoy the odd (one a month) mini-cigar.

Depends on what type of smoke you like. They vary from mild to medium to full, with different fillers, binders and wrapper.

I prefer the full smoke, with mixed fillers and a leathery maduro or oscuro (double maduro) wrapper. These can be quite heavy, often a bad idea on an empty stomach. I like the easy draw for my "hit" which keeps the cigar cool, but most of all the flavor.

I would suggest trying a medium smoke with maybe a natural wrapper and go from there. Note where the filler comes from. You'll either want more or less, and then try something new accordingly.

An old thread.  However, I have been feeling a urge to have a go at smoking a pipe, no real trigger (I don't think)?  My Granddad used to smoke one and I think maybe I just remember the smell.  I usually find that my body/mind has an urge until I do it, so I tend to just go with it.

SO, the question, have you ever smoked one, how did you find it?  I would just go and get one, but the investment is a bit more than the odd cigar it seems.

Drastic

Never tried the pipe variety, you have a local smoke shop where someone could give you some recommendations?

I started out smoking a pipe many years ago at university.  Loved it.  Still have my pipes packed away somewhere. The only problem is carrying all the gear: pipe, tobacco pouch, lighter or matches, little tamper thing on you. Winter no problem, but summer it's damn difficult.

Switched from pipe to cigars but got too many complaints, especially from women. Switched to cigarettes and smoked them 19 years then quit.

I'm afraid if I touched a pipe now I would go back to smoking cigarettes.  I did like my tobacco.  Got to have a vice or three. ;-)
