I've thinking about making a thread on this. I knew the US 'off the books' market was big, but the recession made me more aware of it re labor.  But the big eye-opener was my CL-scanner and entry into professional hoarding. Want a bulldozer or excavator? They're on CL.

The IRS has algos that estimate what your reported income should be if you run a cash biz. If that fails, and they are *really* out to get you, they can do a 'net worth audit' (rare, but they did pull that on a bootlegger here).

But, for a small-time operator, CL arbitrage could probably stay off the radar entirely.  I've met one guy locally who looks to be doing that. After expenses, I'd be surprised if he makes min wage.
