Spring City prepares to host a crowd four times its population during total solar eclipse

George Thacker says his hotel has been booked up for almost three
years in anticipation of August's solar eclipse.

'People from Germany, Australia-- they are coming from everywhere to
Spring City,' Thacker said.

The city's manager says Thacker's hotel is one of many that are sold
out for the weekend leading up to the phenomenon, and lots of visitors
are still looking for somewhere to witness history.

The eclipse is about a 3 hour drive away.  My friend and I are going to road trip it up to Grand Island, NE.

We have family in Charleston, SC. Their place has been over-booked for about 2 years now. We're taking sleeping bags.

Logistically, getting vehicle fuel might be the biggest problem after lodging, particularly in rural towns that aren't near vacation destinations. We'll top up the tank about 2 hours away from the path, that should get us in & out.

I think Gville is big enough that it'll cope. Restaurants might be maxxed out for a day or two.

Though someone else in our group is bringing a bulk pack of glasses, I picked up these from AMZ in case we don't make it or have more in the froup than expected. Just watched the eclipse in n Corvallis.  If you are near the path, do yourself a favor and see it at 100% if you can.  It was absolutely amazing.

We're in greater Charleston. 45 minutes before total eclipse we have a massive thunderstorm. Hoping it'll clear.
