Dogboy, not sure if you saw this, but I got an email from paypal today... they are also having a contest. Might be worth looking into if you plan to spread to android:
https://www.x.com/community/ppx/devchallenge

You could win $25,000 for your Android App

Use PayPal to integrate secure payments into your Android app and you could win $25,000, or $15,000, or $10,000. In fact, there are no losers in this contest. There are people that don’t win money, but really, what’s the worst thing that can happen? You end up with payments in your Android app?
Prizes

    Grand Prize is $25,000
2nd prize is $15,000, not too shabby
And 3rd prize is $10,000, which is not to be sneezed at

In addition to the cold hard PayPal account deposit, the top 3 applications will receive marketing and PR support from PayPal to help build awareness of their application.

My take on it is that illinois would want amazon to collect tax on all purchases in illinois. Then it would be on amazon to send the monthly payments to the state. BUT things get weird when different counties and all of that get involved with all of their different rates. So amazon just said FO and got rid of affiliates which are the only thing to tie them to the state.

I guess in illinois this year, we are supposed to pay taxes on anything we buy out of state and use in state. I think at this point our bankrupt state is just trying to get any money they can. They doubled our income tax this year and pretty much said they have no intentions of spending cuts. Awesome.

I think a federal online tax is really the only solution but that will be a giant mess if they ever try and do that.

Does anyone know if IL is doing the same thing that NY tried or is it slightly different. Either way it sucks and it cost me my amazon aff money. I guess my solution is to move my biz out of state.

I make most of my money from pr0n still so as long as there is not a jerkers tax I should be fine.... but it is probably just a matter of time until they try to collect on that.

Dogboy, could you use something like kickstarter to get funding or prosper to get a loan?

Here is what I get with my supposed 6mb.

Also thanks to ATT I guess I have 150gb limit per month.

Might be time to switch.

I remember downloading MP3s years ago  over dialup, and I was lucky to get 5 songs over night. Now with spotify you can stream almost any album.

This will effect us. It is not a huge impact since we do not do much on Amazon, but a few other companies have already followed. Musicians friend for example.

I wonder how far they will try and stretch things out... affiliates > affiliate companies > advertising > etc. Not sure exactly how it ties to just affiliates.

Google has an office in Chicago and I think performics used to be here, so I wonder if they will eventually come after that connection, and try to tie merchants into the state like that.

Series of tubes!

Traffic / Re: Color: The Next Big Facebook?
« on: March 29, 2011, 06:31:47 AM »
I do not see it replacing facebook, or even gaining as much use or popularity since it is based on real world socializing... or stalking in order to gain access to a users photos. I think one of the reasons all the social stuff has gotten so big is because it is not really social in the face to face sense. It lets you sit home in your undz (in my case) and talk to people you normally would not.

What I got out of this "color" is that it only works if you are 150 feet or less from another user. It seemed like it was only temporary access to their images, while you are within that distance.

I find it pretty neat, but not really sure I could see myself using. Because I have a friggin blackberry.

I am sure for the right type of people, this thing would be pretty attractive. I cannot imagine all the trouble teens will get in using this in a school.

Something like this that would be interesting is a real time feed of photos based on geotagging. Like a walking history of the world through the eyes of other photographers. Like if you had an app that pulled pictures as you walked based on your location rather than on the other users.

Either way it is pretty neat sounding, but I think when it gains more use it will become pretty scary.

This one is crazy... it was actually called "the bacon explosion" and was "invented" by these guys:
http://www.bbqaddicts.com/blog/recipes/bacon-explosion/

It went viral like 2-3 years ago maybe for superbowl XYZ.

That is "TheMadHat" Who we all have probably had a drink with. Anyhow these guys here in chicago basically stole the idea and are now selling it as there own and getting tons of attention for it.

The thing is trademarked so not sure if they get by it by calling it the bacon bomb, but it is the same damn thing.

Hardware & Technology / Re: Shoeboxed.com Receipt Scanning
« on: November 26, 2010, 03:01:12 AM »
I have been "paperless" for about 2 years now, you may want to look into a scansnap scanner for all of your docs. On the mac I use a software called YEP to tag and organize everything. The scanner has OCR so all the text is searchable. You could also scan into evernot and do it that eay and have it synced across machines.

Beyond that I always use my AMEX for all purchases (or paypal) and that all gets imported and tagged into quicken.

My main thing w. out having actual paper is the backups. Need to make sure you have some offsite method for that.

This service does look pretty cool, but I prefer just to open my mail or empty my pockets and chuck it on the scanner.
