Hardware & Technology / Re: WinXp pdf to html converter?

You also might be able to use: http://finereader.abbyy.com/

That came w/ my scanner and turns all the PDFs into searchable pdfs and does the OCR and what not. Then you could copy and paste.

Same with evernote. Not sure if the free one will do ocr or not, but you could then cut and paste.

This also seems like it may do a pretty nice job: http://www.verypdf.com/app/pdf-to-html-converter/index.html

Tom I did not realize that this was the other site you were talking about and this was the exercise program you were talking about. I am interested in joining this.

I started "couch to 5k" a few weeks back, and have been doing the run/jogs 3 days a week. Last week I was a bum because I was prepping for miami so I was up late working every night which made me feel like a turd in the mornings/all day. So I was 2/3 vs 3/3.

Tomorrow I plan on starting back to normal.

So put me down for 3 a week  ???

Monetization / Re: Old domains worth anything
« on: December 18, 2012, 07:09:06 AM »
If they are built out you are selling sites vs domains... so the value should be there. As long as they are indexed they are worth something.

On the domain front, usually anything with a hyphen is worth a fraction of even the .org

So lets say the .com is worth 10k. The .org is maybe 750-1000, the hyphen.com I would think is 500ish at the most. If it is just a domain. As a site, it is whatever you think you can get / would be happy with.

I buy and sell lots of domains, and have decent luck with people writing in and from brokerage / domains lists such as tobyclements.com

If the person wrote you they have value to them whether you realize it or not. If they have not made an offer and you have not given them a $$$, they probably know what they are doing.

I would ask like 10x what you would be happy selling them for, and negotiate from there.

Do you have analytics or some other stats on there? Could they be ranking somewhere?

www.twilio.com the call recording is still not 100% released AFAIK, but you can beta test it.

The rest can all be done with labs and tools I would think.

Water Cooler / Re: Hitch-hiking From NYC to Alaska
« on: October 10, 2012, 04:31:18 AM »
If you have Netflix (or access to someone elses) look up "Thumbs Up". It is basically a couple of guys who hitchhike around the US and document it. They do get a private plane (like a tiny prop plane) up to alaska. They meet some real weirdos and some other amazing folks along the way.

If you come through Chicago let me know. I should have heated floors by then :P

It can be brutal here in the winter and I do not even want to imagine what it would be like in Alaska at that same time of year. I would avoid it.

Also it seems like you are planning to travel through Canada (maybe) and bring a dog? Make sure to check into all the requirements and what not of traveling with an animal into Canada from the US. The borders are way more strict than they were years ago. I know you will need documentation of vaccinations and the like.

Anyhow be safe and enjoy your adventure!

Web Development / Re: Do I trandfer all my domains into one account?
« on: June 23, 2012, 05:16:42 AM »
About a year ago I switched to fabulous.com and have not looked back. No BS / No upsells. Whenever I get a new domain I transfer it over. Free privacy. So either fake whois / real whois or private.

if the ipod touch can have apps installed there are actually some pretty sweet apps. Filebrowser for example will connect to servers (local or otherwise) and play files. it is $5 but pretty decent.

I have a router with a HD on it, and I rip all my DVDs to that (as mk4) and can play those files from any machine in my house or my ipad.

Web Development / Re: Magento vs Woocommerce
« on: June 02, 2012, 02:05:14 AM »
I had a magento site and we were having such performance and usability issues that we switched to Big Commerce. It is about $40 a month, but includes hosting. It has a nice feature set and it pretty easy to use.

Not as configurable as magento, but 100x easier / quicker / stable / etc. At least in our use.

If you have a dedicated server for it and know what you are doing magento is great. For anyone who doesn't I would stay away from it.

I made one of these because I totally f'd my back up. I use it not nearly as often as I should. For a while I was doing like 2-3 hrs a day on it.

They are great though if you have back or any other sitting issues.

Much of the work I have been doing lately requires 2 monitors and I only have the one on there. It is great though. Recommended.

If you are not planning to watch videos or play games on the monitors you can get a variety of USB to DVI adapters for around 50$. So you can run numerous monitors off of any computer.

Also some USB docking stations:
